Metrtotvnews.com, New York: Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday joined the Organizaion of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) contact group meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
The OIC contact group meeting focused on the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar's Rakhine state. It called for the end of violence in the troubled region.
"Indonesia continuously encourages OIC's constructive measures to reduce tensions in Rakhine State," the Indonesian leader said.
"The meeting was attended by a number of OIC countries. It was also attended by several external parties, including UNHCR, the United States and the United Kingdom.
"Some OIC countries were repsensented by government leaders namely Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran and Indonesia. Other OIC countries were represented by foreign ministers and high-ranking officials," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.
"We are concerned with the situation in Rakhine State. Therefore, we were represented by vice president," She added.
