medcom.id, Jakarta: President Joko Widodo revealed the remaining four Indonesians held hostage by Abu Sayyaf in the southern Philippines have been released. They are currently under the protection of the Philippine authorities.
"Thank god, the four Indonesians held hostage since March 14 have been freed," said Jokowi at Istana Negara, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/11/2016).
Jokowi appreciated the cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines to solve the problem especially the trilateral meeting between Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia last week.
"The trilateral meeting has produced positive outcomes including this," he continued.
Jokowi stated the four Indonesians are in good condition. "They will be handed over to the Indonesian government immediately," he added.
Two Indonesian vessels, TB Henry and Christi, were hijacked by Abu Sayyaf in Sulu-Sulawesi Sea on March 14. Six crew managed to escape but the other four were captured by the hijackers.
Previously, ten Indonesians released by Abu Sayyaf in the beginning of this month. Their vessels were also hijacked by the militant group. However, the two hijackings were conducted by different factions inside the group.
