US Ambassador Defends Freedom of Navigation Operation in South China Sea

medcom.id, Jakarta: The United States (US) Ambassador to ASEAN Nina Hachigian underlined freedom of navigation operation held by American Navy in South china Sea is normal practice and unprovocative.
 
"Our operations are not new and they are not provocative," said Hachigian in a telephonic media briefing, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/24/2016).
 
She explained the operation is conducted according to international legal right. She claimed countries welcome the operation as it maintains stability which allowed them to prosper.
 
"we've conducted these operations around the globe since 1979 including the south china sea the south china sea cannot be an exception," she said.
 
US Secretary of State John Kerry met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Washington D. C,  Tuesday (2/23) amid increasing tension in the South China Sea over report that China deployed missiles, radar and jets in the area.
 
During press conference, Wang said media give too much attention to China  while ignoring military actions done by other countries. Many observers analyzed the statement is directed to freedom of navigation operation by the US.
 
Moreover, Wang affirmed his country still commits to non-militarization in the South China Sea. A remark that welcomed by Secretary Kerry.
 
"We take the foreign minister at his word today that he wants to see this resolved through dialogue," the secretary mentioned.
