medcom.id, Jakarta: Following the tragedy of the death of Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, Burhan Muhammad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning to set up a new regulation. The ministry will provide special protection for diplomats assigned to conflict areas.

"We are discussing the regulation providing special protection in dangerous or conflicted territories. There will be different treatment, especially for diplomats assigned to dangerous and conflicted area," Retno said in Pancasila Building of the Foreign Ministry Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday evening (5/19/2015).

Retno added that so far, the government had given insurance and protection for all diplomats assigned overseas. Evidently, it is not sufficient, especially for those in conflict zones.

"Indonesia has given insurance, but for conflict areas with greater risks, additional treatments are also needed," she continued.

Regarding to the details of the warranty and special protection, Retno said it is on the level of discussion. "We are brewing the regulations to protect them," she said.

Retno assessed that the issue is crucial, as Indonesia assigned many diplomats in conflicted areas. "As such, better protection is needed," she concluded. (Eps)
