Metrotvnewscom, Jakarta: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi released the latest update regarding 10 Indonesian sailors who are being taken as hostages by Abu Sayyaf group in the Philippines.
"The effort to save 10 Indonesian sailors is still on going. In the last three days, I had intensive communication with Philippine foreign minister. The latest call was this morning at 8.13 AM," said Retno at her office, Jakarta, Thursday (3/31/2016).
"We are still discussing the best option. The safety of the sailors is our main concern. The ministry also has received their latest position and condition," she continued.
She added her ministry also has contacted the crew's relatives. She reiterated the support from the Philippine government is very crucial in this issue. She underlined that Indonesia appreciates the help from the Philippine government.
Retno still refused to confirmed the identity of the 10 sailors even though the information have been circulated in the media since few days ago.
Abu Sayyaf hijacked two indonesian vessels, Brahma 12 and Anand 12, that brought 7,000 tons of coal from Indonesia to the Philippines. The militant group then also took the crew as hostages.
The information about the hijacking was received by the shipowner on March, 26. The hijackers demanded ransom money to free the sailors.
