medcom.id, Jakarta: It is time for international community to put more pressure and give more sanctions to Israel as the country continues its atrocities towards Palestinians and violate all the norms in the international law, urged Palestnian Ambassador for Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi in an exclusive interview with Metrotvnews.com.

“In the end of the day, Israeli country should be abiding by the international law like every other country in the world. It should not be left above the international law,” Mehdawi said in his office in Jakarta on Monday (1/25/2016).

Mehdawi mentioned that Israeli policies towards Palestine is getting more aggressive. The Israeli Government keeps building illegal settlements in most parts of the West Bank and Jerusalem. Israeli forces are also still randomly killing Palestinian civilians.

“This is really very unfortunate and this leads into more really tense situation,” he continued.

The prospect for peace between Palestine and Israel is also still bleak. Mehdawi argued current Israeli government  does not has any intention to establish any peace with Palestine.

“At the political front, as you might be aware there is nothing moving. Israelis do not show  an interest to reach any peace.  So we can say safely that while our leadership and our people had chosen for quite long time to go through the peace process unfortunately we don’t have a partner,” he stressed.

Therefore,  Mehdawi believes only tougher measures from international community that could stop Israeli atrocities and put the country back to the negotiation table. He acknowledged several countries has changed their approach towards Israel but he hopes the trend could grow larger.

“We are happy that Europe started to take some measures on this direction. While other countries are also adopting the same. We hope that those kinds of pressure should increase and should be more even tough on Israel,” he concluded.
