medcom.id, Jakarta: The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is committed to help trafficking victims in Southeast Asia.
"It is a serious problem in Southeast Asia," Indonesian representative to the AICHR Dinna Wisnu said during the launch of the Regional Review on Laws, Policies and Practices within ASEAN relating to the Identificiation, Management and Treatment of Victims of Trafficking, especially Women and Children in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/28).
"We need to work with our partners including the United States (US) and the European Union (EU)," she continued.
EU Ambassador to Indonesia Fransisco Fontan mentioned trafficking is a global problem. "The EU fully supports ASEAN to help trafficking victims," he stated.
There are 34.5 million trafficking victims in the world. One third of them are from Southeast Asia.
