ASEAN, EU Hold High-Performance Computing Virtual School

Bangkok: The "EU-ASEAN High-Performance Computing (HPC) Virtual School 2021: System Design and HPC Applications" started July 5 and will take place until July 9.
 
Hosted by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA),  Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), the Kingdom of Thailand, the virtual school is organised by the ASEAN HPC Task Force and carried out in the framework of the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI).
 
Co-chair of the ASEAN HPC Task Force Piyawut Srichaikul,  COSTI Chair and Permanent Secretary of MHESI Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai and EU Ambassador to Thailand Pirkka Tapiola officially opened the virtual school.

Following the opening, Satoshi Matsuoka, Director of RIKEN Center for Computational Science Japan, also delivered a keynote lecture on an overview of the Fugaku: future perspective.
 
"The students, all from ASEAN Member States, participated in a session on research career development in Europe for ASEAN researchers," stated the ASEAN Secretariat in a press release on Monday. 
 
In this session, EURAXESS discussed the researcher’s gateway in Europe, while Marie Sk?odowska Curie Actions and European Research Council shared pathways for interested parties on how to access research grants.
 
The students will spend the rest of the week learning basic HPC design and programming skills to access local and international HPC platforms with proficiency.
 
The school will wrap up with an event that is open to the public: a Panel Discussion: "The Future of High-Performance Computing" on July 9. 
 
Closing remarks will be delivered by EU Ambassador to ASEAN, Igor Driesmans and Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Economic Community.
