Denpasar: The Bali provincial administration has cofirmed that internet services in the island will be temporarily switched off for Nyepi on March 7.
"All internet and communication providers should annnounce this decision. They should inform their customers," Bali provincial administration spokesperson Gede Darmawa said in a written statement on Monday.
In addition to that, Ngurah Rai International Airport will halt operations on March 7. Similar with internet services, Bali's main airport will be closed for 24 hours from 06.00 a.m to 06.00 a.m. the next day.
"It will be closed at 06:00 a.m local time on March 7. It will be reopened at 06:00 a.m local time on March 8," state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I spokesperson Arie Ashanurrohim told the press last week.
The spokesperson said that the closure will affect 468 international and domestic flights. The official ensured that operations will be back to normal on the next day.
Located 13 km south of Denpasar, Ngurah Rai International Airport is the largest airport in the island of Bali. Named after Balinese hero I Gusti Ngurah Rai, the airpport is the second busiest airport in Indonesia.
Nyepi is an important celebration in the island of Bali. It is also a public holiday in Indonesia.
