Govt Restores Internet Access in 29 Regencies in Papua, West Papua

Jakarta: The Central Government has restored internet connection in 29 regencies in Papua and West Papua provinces as situation in the two provinces is gradually improving in the wake of riots that hit the region.
 
In Papua province, the Central Government has restored internet connection in 19 regencies namely Keerom, Puncak Jaya, Puncak, Asmat, Boven Digoel, Mamberamo Raya, Central Mamberamo, Intan Jaya, Yalimo, Lanny Jaya, Mappi, Tolikara, Nduga, Supiori, Waropen, Merauke, Biak, Yapen, dan Sarmi. 
 
In West Papua province, the Central Government has restored internet connection in 10 regencies namely Fakfak, South Sorong, Raja Ampat, Bintuni Bay, Wondama Bay, Kaimana, Tambrauw, Maybrat, South Manokwari and Arfak Mountains.

"The proliferation of hate speech, disinformation, hoaxes and provocations on social media has started to slow down," the Cabinet Secretariat's website quoted Communication and Information Ministry spokesperson Ferdinandus Setu as saying.
 
According to the official, the Central government will review the situation in Mimika, Paniai, Deiyai, Dogiyai, Jayawijaya, Bintang Mountains, Numfor, Jayapura city, Yahukimo, Sorong, Sorong City and Manokwari City in the next one or two days.
