Jakarta: The Indonesian Government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to ratify the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce (AAEC) Bill.
"Based on the foregoing and after seriously considering the approval of the factions, allow us to represent President of the Republic of Indonesia in this honorable Plenary Meeting, to agree to ratify the Bill on the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce to be passed into a law," Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate said at the House of Representatives Plenary Meeting for the Ratification of AAEC Bill in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by a press release issued by the Ministry of Commmunication and Informatics.
The decision to ratify the AAEC Bill, the Minister said, shows a significant meaning because the agreement serves as the legal basis for cooperation in the intergovernmental e-commerce sector in ASEAN.
It is also expected to improve Indonesia’s competitiveness in the ASEAN region.
The ratification of the bill, the Minister added, serves as the foundation for nation building and shows concern from all elements including the Government, business players, and the Indonesian parliament as partners.
"We believe the agreement will be part of Indonesia’s transformation as an advanced digital economy and in the end, can help improve public welfare," he said.
