Media Must Be Ready to Face Multiplatform Era

Yogi Bayu Aji, Christopher Harindra • 29 January 2020 11:31
Jakarta: Conventional mass media are asked to prepare for the multiplatform era. They must utilize existing means in the digital world to win readers and viewers.

"Must adjust to the changing times," said Communications and Information Minister Johnny Gerard Plate at the Media Group Complex, South Kedoya, West Jakarta on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

According to him, the digital world continues to grow as the technology improves. To that end, the media must begin to explore the digital world by providing multiplatform services.

Johnny did not deny that the print media still has its own market segment. However, Johnny stressed the print media must be creative to look after their readers.

On the other hand, Johnny ensured the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemkominfo) would continue to suppress hoaxes and fake news in the internet. He said he does not hesitate to block sites that display misleading information.

"Blocking means there is already a violation of the law," said the Secretary General of the NasDem Party.

Kemkominfo, he said, will continue to monitor the development of existing issues in the digital world. The press was invited to develop the sector.
