Drone Deployed to Monitor Temperature of Motorcycle Taxi Drivers

Antara • 07 April 2020 13:56
Jakarta: The police have deployed a drone to detect the body temperature of motorists, particularly of app-based motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in Senayan area in Jakarta to help stem the spread of covid-19.

The step has been taken, as several online motorcycle taxis continue to operate despite the government having issued a physical distancing policy over the covid-19 pandemic.

The drone also doubles up as a medium to disseminate information to the public through a sound system on ways to safeguard from being exposed to covid-19, Chief of the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian Police Inspector General Istiono stated on Monday, April 6, 2020.

The use of drones is part of the Safety and Covid-19 Spread Prevention Operation.

"The 2020 Safety Operation lays greater emphasis on preventive efforts. In the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, we have launched the operation by prioritizing public safety to protect against the dangers of covid-19 by currently employing a drone," he stated.

The drone will also be deployed in several other areas in the capital to detect the body temperature of people in crowds, he revealed.

"This device has helped us immensely. We will continue to deploy it during the extraordinary occurrence or KLB. If the body temperature of any of them crosses 38 degrees Celsius, we will recommend swift action to prevent the spread of covid-19," he explained. (antara)
