medcom.id, Banda Aceh: Continuing conflict have swept the Middle East and Africa with moslem majority among the people. The condition should not happen in Indonesia, whereas expected that Indonesian moslems would become the driving power of the nation's unity and progress.
"Indonesia, with the majority of Islam as citizens, would make progress if they master science and technology. Without the two, the large numbers will not be converted into power," the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan stated.
He delivered the idea at the 4th National Seminar and Discussion of Muhammadiyah University Faculty of Law's Alumni Association (IKAFHUMA) in Banda Aceh, NAD. The seminar with the theme of "Bureaucracy and Law Politics of Aceh Government" was held at the Muhammadiyah University Campus, KH Ahmad Dahlan, Banda Aceh, Wednesday (5/27/2015).
Without the mastery of science and knowledge, the richness of Indonesian natural resources will be wasted. The economic benefits from gold, coal, silver, oil, fish, forestry products, farm, plantation and others would be acquired by foreign nations, as it may also be the cause of disunity.
"The Middle East with overflowing natural wealth continued to have war. Try looking at Singapore, a small country with no natural resources but is advanced and the people is prosperous through the mastery of science and technology," Zul elaborated.
For moslems to be more capable of mastering science and technology, small differences should not be made huge problems. Quarrels with other religions are prohibited by the teaching of Islam, let alone quarrels between its own congregation.
The problem of racial-religion-culture diversity of Indonesia have been dealt with by the founding fathers. They had summarized all the differences as an important power deliberated in Pancasila, UUD '45, Bhineka Tunggal Ika and NKRI.
"Whether or not this country progresses depend on us. We should focus on pushing this country forward," Zulkifli affirmed.
Aside from MPR Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, the event was attended by the member of Commission III of DPR from Aceh Muslimin Aiyub, Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Dr.H. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed., Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah and the Third Assistant of the General Administration of Aceh Provincial Government Dr. Muzakar A. Gani. (Eps)
