medcom.id, Jakarta: A United States (US) business delegation comprising of representatives from several American giant technology companies holding three-days visit to Indonesia on March 3-5.
The visit is part of "American Innovation Roadshow" program initiated by US Secretary of State John Kerry last August intended to help young entrepreneurs across Asia on how to grow their businesses.
The program is started weeks after US-ASEAN Summit in San Fransisco where entrepreneurship and innovation were one of the main topics.
The delegation led by Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State Ambassador David Thorne is scheduled to held series of events with Indonesian young entrepreneurs during the visit.
"Indonesia is huge part of Southeast Asia, huge economic driver," mentioned Qualcomm vice president Susie Armstrong during public discussion at @america cultural center, Jakarta, Thursday (3/3/2016).
IBM software strategy director Deborah Magid explained digital innovation could support Indonesia's economy. "In agriculture, technology could help farmers to learn whether to use fertilizer or not," she gave an example.
The delegation also had meetings with several local officials in the first day of their visit. "We've met with the Presidential Chief of Staff and the Trade Minister. We learned about the plan from the Chief of Staff, the plan for changing regulatory environment of Indonesia to strengthen the infrastructure especially the digital infrastructure," Thorne stated.
During ASEAN-US Summit, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the US to increase cooperation in digital economy.
Besides Indonesia, Asian Innovation Roadshow also held in Vietnam, the Philippines and India.
