medcom.id, Jakarta: Vice President Jusuf Kalla opened the 22th National Technology Awakening Day event in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Thursday, August 10, 2017.
"We have had natural resources. We should add technology capabilities," Kalla said.
"We can compete with developed countries. We should face difficult challenges," he added.
Kalla was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Puan Maharani, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Muhammad Nasir. He was welcomed by South Sulawesi governor Syahril Yasin Limpo and former president B. J. Habibie.
The event will consist of exhibitions, workshops and talk shows. It will gather local government agencies, science institutes and universities.
