medcom.id, Jakarta: Friendster, an online social media, seems to be revived from its grave. When Metrotvnews.com tried to access the Friendster.id, it was successful.
In a glance, Friendster has a similar look to Facebook. After you created an account and entered the social media site, you will be able to see a large picture named as the profile cover. On the bottom left, you will see a smaller picture named the profile picture.
Below the profile cover, You may write your "status". You can even add your location and additional information such as what you are feeling, what you are watching, what you are listening and many others. Under a post, there are the "like" and "dislike" buttons.
There are two oddities which we have realized when trying to register into this social media network. First, you will not be able to write your username with a space. Secondly, you can enlist by using other social media accounts, including Facebook.
Friendster is a social network initially built by a Canadian programmer, as it has a head office in Malaysia. Meanwhile, in an official statement at the site, Friendster.id said to be an Indonesian-made social network.
In "about us" page, there is a short paragraph explaining Friendster.
"Friendster is a social media assisting you to share ideas, stories and laughters with the most important people in your life. As a social network created by Indonesians, Friendster is the manifestation of the character of Indonesian people," as quoted from the page.
Before the existence of Facebook, Friendster is a popular social network. In 2011, they changed their position from a social network to social gaming site. However, Friendster was finally shut down in 2015, although the Friendster.com site is still available for access until the present moment.
"For years, we have built a community and gained precious support. However, due to the shift of conditions in the industry, online gaming community did not respond as we have expected. The development in gaming industry has also pushed us to reconsider our priorities. Therefore, we have decided to shut out services starting from June 14, 2015," wrote Friendster in its homepage.
