medcom.id, Cikarang: Minister of Industry Saleh Husin challenged mobile phone producer with the apple logo, Apple Corp, to build its factory in Indonesia. The challenge was announced following the opening of Samsung's mobile phone assembling factory in Cikarang Industrial Complex, West Java.
Saleh said that by Samsung gaining entrance to Indonesia, it is hoped that Apple may build its factory in the country, to curb the high rate of import on mobile phones.
"We will urge. What Samsung did may become initiator for other phone producers such as Apple to establish production here," Saleh said when met at the inauguration of Samsung Electronics Indonesia mobile phone factory in the EJIP Cikarang Industrial Complex, West Java, Tuesday (6/16/2015).
According to the minister, Samsung, which is the world's largest phone producer with huge market share, should be a good example for other producers.
The factory occupied an area of 6,000 meter per square (m2). The factory is capable of absorbing 972 workers, as the company may realize and provide more chances of employment in the surrounding area. The company has also participated in the advancement of human resources and public welfare.
The production capacity of Samsung mobile phone assembly factory in Indonesia is to reach 1 to 1.5 million units per month, with 14 production lines of smartphone, feature phone and tablet computers. At the first stage of 2015, it would provide great contribution to manufacturing industry products.
It is hoped that the mobile phone industry in Indonesia continues to develop and play an important role as part of the world's mobile phone products supply chain. (Eps)
