medcom.id, Jakarta: The Ministry of Communication and Information denied report that the government will ban over-the-top content like Facebook, Whatsapp and Line.
The ministry's spokesperson Ismail Cawidu explained the government currently is formulating regulation on over-the top content. The draft has been prepared for around one month when netflix expanded its business in Indonesia.
He explained the regulation will obligate over-the-top content provider to establish corporation in Indonesia. He argued it is needed for consumer protection. Moreover,it will also be easier to tax the providers.
Ismail estimates the regulation will be finished next month. He explain the providers only could be blocked if they violated the regulation.
"The ban will not be easy. The decision should be made by panel," he concluded.
