Public Trust in Nuclear Technology Keeps Increasing: Survey

medcom.id, Jakarta: Survey from research agency, Sigma Research, revealed Indonesian public gradually start to have confidence in nuclear technology. 
 
Sigma Research's Survey Coordinator Prima said public confidence in nuclear technology has gradually increased since 2011. At the time, the public confidence was 49.5%. It increased to 52.9% in 2012, 64,1% in 2013, 72% in 2014 and lastly 75.3% in 2015.
 
"The survey result showed public supported Nuclear power Plant because it produces electricity in big capacity," Prima said, in a press conference in National Agency of Nuclear Energy (Batan)'s office, Jakarta, Monday (12/28/2015).
 
Moreover public believed nuclear power plant could fulfill national electricity demands which could push down costs and create jobs.
 
"Public welcomed nuclear power plant to avoid power outage. The tariff is also could be cheaper. It also creates jobs," Prima explained.
 
The survey also showed some people still rejected nuclear power plant mainly because of safety reason like radiation leak. They were also influenced by nuclear accident in Japan recently.
 
"Another factor is nuclear power plant produces nuclear waste that could pollute the environment," Prima concluded.
