medcom.id, Jakarta: Be careful! As much as 50 percent of the medicine being sold online is fake.
The report of the counterfeit medicine was released by the World Health Organization (WHO). Especially here in Indonesia, fake medicines are mostly found in the cosmetic products.
The Head of Food and Medicine Supervision Board (BPOM), Roy Alexander Sparringa said that many people has been deceived. The development of e-commerce currently has been developing rapidly.
"Meanwhile the people is not protected yet," mentioned Roy at the Office of BPOM Jakarta, Cipayung, East Jakarta, Monday (12/7/2015).
The people should be more cautious. On the other hand, the BPOM has tied the agreement (MoU) with the Ministry of Communication and Information to supervise the distribution of illegal products through the virtual world.
"MoU is for the speed of action. Previously we often identified the troubled portals, but to shut them, it requires time," mentioned Roy.
He elaborated that during 2014, BPOM had blocked 287 portals for selling illegal products. As many as 234 sites have been closed this year.
Roy did not deny that the supervision of the illegal products online distribution is quite difficult. "Aside from being unofficial, the consumers have not met the sellers directly," mentioned Roy.
