medcom.id, Jakarta: Association of Indonesian Telecommunication (ATSI) has approved to support the development of the local Over The Top (OTT) services. ATSI is comprised of five main telco operators: Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo, XL, Smartfren and 3.
However, not all local OTTs will be supported by operators. In selecting local OTTs to be supported, ATSI has placed three requirements. First, OTT is included within the category of social media.
Second, the owner of the company is 100 percent Indonesian. The final requirement is that the OTT has already established at around 100-500 thousand subscribers.
Alexander Rusli, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo, as well as the chairman of ATSI, feels that the OTTs needed to be given support do not necessarily the ones starting from zero, but also they who need the boost to develop even greater.
"In less than a year, our target is to boost users to at around 20-30 million," said Alex. In the announcement of cross-platform cooperation with IBM, Alex explained that so far there are three local OTTs to be supported by ATSI, which are Qlue, Catfiz and Sebangsa.
The form of support given by these operators is by including these selected local OTTs in their promotional activities. Aside from that, operators can also increase the awareness of the people on the presence of local applications, supported by the SMS Blast.
