medcom.id, Jakarta: Founder and CEO of Traveloka Ferry Unardi feels that Indonesia has a great potential to develop the tech industry.
Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara was accompanied by several top leaders of Indonesian technology companies when visiting the Silicon Valley. Aside from the Tokopedia boss, the visit was also followed by Ferry itself.
When meeting with investors and officials of US technology company, Ferry presented the potential that Indonesia has in the tech industry. He also explained the role of Traveloka to put forward the tech industry in Indonesia.
"The visit is a good initial step for the government to boost the startup growth in Indonesia," Ferry said. "It is time for Indonesian tech industry to rise up and play an important role in ASEAN.
Ferry hoped that the visit to Silicon Valley may urge Indonesians to start making local startup companies. He feels that Indonesia has a great potential to develop the tech industry. He believes that the tech industry may develop very well, as Indonesia has the talented and high spirited younger generation.
"The positive growth achieved by Traveloka and other startups are proof that we are able to compete," Ferry said.
Meanwhile, from the government side, Rudiantara mentioned that he hopes that in 2020, at least 1,000 businesses will emerge in the field of technology. Aside from that, he also hopes that Indonesia's digital economy may continue to develop, and become the largest in ASEAN.
