The Huge Potential of Indonesian E-Commerce

medcom.id: The Ministry of Communication and Information believes that Indonesia has great potential in the e-commerce industry. This year, the e-commerce transactions  in Indonesia is estimated to reach USD24.6 billion (Rp330.5 trillion). 
 
The ministry also believes that Indonesia has assets to develop digital industry such as growing middle class and access to technology.
 
Indonesian youth is very enthusiastic with the industry. Hundreds of start ups were established in the past few years.
 
To develop the industry, the government has issued National E-commerce Roadmap. The government also plans to create 1,000 entrepreneurs in the technology sector in 2020.
 
According to the Association of Indonesian E-commerce (idEA), the National E-commerce Roadmap mentions the issue of logistics, funding, consumer protection, communication infrastructures, tax, human resources development and cyber security.
 
"It is an important momentum for the national e-commerce industry. We are optimistic that Indonesia is on the right track," mentioned Daniel Tumiwa, the Chairman of the Indonesian E-Commerce Association.
