medcom.id, Jakarta: Market research company, International Data Corporation (IDC),mentioned  in its report that smart city concept is getting popular in Indonesia.

According to IDC, the Indonesian government is going to provide more than USD420 billion for various infrastructure projects including telecommunication infrastructures. IDC mentioned that cooperation between the government and solution providers is crucial in developing smart city.

"Most Indonesian Smart City projects are initiated by local or regional governments," said the Country Manager of IDC Indonesia and the Philippines, Sudev Bangah.

"However, many of these projects are funded by silos which may not be sustainable in the long term," he added. Therefore, he advised the government should invest directly in smart city projects.

Smart city project covers three main issues namely the Internet of Things (IoT), cognitive computing and mobility solutions.

The government may contribute in smart city project by establishing transparent e-government system, preparing city planning and creating partnership with solution providers.

Meanwhile for the solution providers, IDC mentioned that smart city project could be alternative income source for them.
