medcom.id, Jakarta: Twitter announced the establishment of Trust & Safety Council to ensure that users will feel secure and comfortable in expressing themselves.
According to the official statement of Twitter, there are currently 40 organisations from 13 countries listed as members. ICT Watch and The Wahid Institute are two Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) from Indonesia in the board.
“With hundred millions of tweets written in daily basis, the content volume in Twitter is extremely large, so it is a complex issue to maintain balance between fighting abuse and promoting facts," mentioned the Public Policy Manager of Twitter Indonesia, Agung Yudha.
"It requires multiple approaches, where each user has a role, as well as activists who work for security and freedom of expression."
ICT Watch was established in 2002. It is one of the first organizations in Indonesia that constantly educates public about the internet.
Meanwhile, The Wahid Institute was established in 2004 by the fourth Indonesian President, KH Abdurrahman Wahid. It has reputation as supporter of democracy, multiculturalism and tolerance.
