medcom.id: Globally, Facebook has more than a billion of active users, where 241 million of them are from Southeast Asia. From all Facebook users in Southeast Asia, 94 percent have accessed Facebook through mobile devices.
"Southeast Asia is a dynamic mobile-first region. It has become a region with the fastest growth for Facebook," said the Managing Director of Southeast Asia for Facebook, Kenneth Bishop. Aligned with Facebook, the growth of Instagram users in Southeast Asia is also plenty. From 400 million active users of Instagram, at around 5 percent or 22 million people are from Indonesia.
According to Facebook, Southeast Asia users have made this social media as the means to find latest news. They even use Facebook to acquire the brands, services and latest entertainment. Interestingly, they have also used Facebook to interact with business owners.
In Singapore, the number of Facebook users sending messages to companies or business owners have reached twice of the global average in a month. Meanwhile, the message sent by Malaysian users have reached 1.5 times more than the average of messages sent for businesses in the global scale.
Facebook explained that Southeast Asian communities have accessed the internet more often from their mobile devices, therefore advertisers in the region have also selected Facebook to market their products. The example is Lazada, which have used Facebook to reach 80 percent of the population in Indonesia.
