Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has revealed that the Indonesian government's covid-19 vaccination program will begin in December 2020 or January 2021.
"God willing, it will begin in December 2020 or January 2021," the president said here on Wednesday.
"To realize this program, all elements of society must work together," the former Jakarta governor stated.
According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, the Indonesian Government is currently preparing vaccinations schemes for all Indonesians.
In the beginning of the covid-19 vaccination program, the government will prioritize medical workers and beneficiaries of government’s assistances.
"President Jokowi ordered to prioritize those working on the front line, such as doctors and those providing health services, and the second priority are beneficiaries of Government’s assistances," the minister said in Jakarta earlier this week.
On Wednesday afternoon, the National Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 4,284 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 287,008.
Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, from Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, the total number of confirmed covid-19 recoveries across Indonesia was up by 4,510 to 214,947.
Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, the total number of confirmed covid-19 deaths in the country was up by 139 to 10,740.
