Jakarta: After successfully hosting the Asian Games in 2018, Indonesia is now aiming to host another major sporting event, the 2032 Olympics.

According to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the 2018 Asian Games has opened the world's eyes that Indonesia is able to be a good host.

"Therefore, in 2018 we have officially declared our interest to host the Olympics in 2032," said the President during a limited cabinet meeting here on Wednesday.

"To host the Olympics in 2032, we have to compete with Australia, Germany, Korea, Qatar, China and India," he stated.

The President explained that hosting the Olympics is a way to improve the image and dignity of the nation.

Therefore, the President reminded that this plan should be used as a momentum for national development.

"Improve various things that have been lacking, starting from infrastructure, achievements of athletes, global visibility and so on," he added.
