Jakarta: The traffic flow on national roads across Java Island decreased by 68 percent on an average after applying the Large-Scale Social Distancing (PSBB) measure, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) stated.
"Based on monitoring of the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR, a decrease in the national road traffic during PSBB in Java varies across regions, ranging from 33 percent to 89 percent, with an average of 68 percent," the ministry noted in a statement received here on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
The reduction in traffic flow was observed on national roads in the provinces of Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java, among others.
Four national roads in Banten Province where PSBB is in force and registered a decline in traffic flow are the Merak border section-Cilegon, with traffic dropping 47 percent, 55 percent decrease on the Cilegon-Serang road segment, 58 percent on the Serang-Tangerang segment, and 51 percent on Daan Mogot (Tangerang)-Jakarta segment.
Furthermore, West Java Province witnessed a decrease in average daily traffic on four national roads: 46 percent reduction on Jl. Soekarno Hatta in Bandung, 66 percent on the Padalarang-Bandung City segment, 49 percent on the Cileunyi-Nagreg segment, and 33 percent on the Subang/Karawang-Kaman Pamanukan segment.
In Central Java Province, the PSBB measure is enforced on eight national roads, with a resultant plummet in the flow of traffic there.
In the DI Yogyakarta region, traffic declined on five national roads: 80 percent reduction on the Karang Nongko-Toyan segment, 60 percent drop each on the North West Arterial Road and Ateri Utara Road, 69 percent on the Sleman City-Yogyakarta City section, and 76 percent in Janti (Yogyakarta)-Pambambanan (in the border of Prov. Central Java).
In East Java Province, five national roads recorded a notable drop in traffic flow: 78 percent on Pattimura Road (Bangil), 77 percent on the Widang/Bdahan-Lamongan segment, 89 percent on the Nganjuk-Kertosono segment, 84 percent on the Madiun-Caruban segment, and 80 percent on the Jombang-Mojokerto segment.
