Lawmaker Calls for Stronger Role of National Disaster Mitigation Agency

Fachri Audhia Hafiez • 18 May 2021 13:12
Jakarta : Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) has stated that a stronger National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is needed to improve disaster management policies in the country.

"We see that there are still drawbacks starting from planning, human resources, monitoring, information system, and budgeting," said Commission VIII member Lisda Henrajoni during Commission VIII DPR work meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini in here on Monday.

"(This happens) even though each region possess its own disaster threats," Lisda said.

Lisda hoped that the aspiration and feedback from Commission VIII would be accepted well.

One of the focus is the idea of inserting BNPB's nomenclature into the Disaster Management Bill (RUU).

"This suggestion especially, would enhance related institutions, one of them being BNPB," Lisda stated. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
