Jakarta: The National Police (Polri) has confirmed that the Special Detachement 88 Anti-Terror (Densus 88) recently arrested a suspected terrorist named Novendri in West Sumatra province.

According to police, Novendri is a member of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) group, he is also known as Abu Zahran or Abu Jundi.

Arrested in the city of Padang on Thursday evening, Novendri received instructions from JAD leader Saefulah alias Chaniago. He was also given money by a JAD member named Abu Saedah.

"He acted as an intermediator between JAD members in Indonesia and JAD members in Afghanistan," Polri spokesman Brigadier General Dedy Prasetyo said here on Tuesday.

"He had links with JAD cells in Lampung, Sibolga and Bekasi," the Polri official added.

Affiliated with ISIS, JAD has been linked to the 2018 Surabaya bombings. In 2017, the group was identified as a terrorist organization by the United States.
