Floods Force 720 People to Relocate in West Kalimantan

Jakarta: Floods in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan Province have forced 720 people to take refuge in 10 temporary shelters.
 
According to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Melawi Regency, the floods have occured since Sunday.  As of Tuesday afternoon, the flooding has expanded to 10 areas.
 
The ten areas are South Pinoh, Sayan, Sokan, Nanga Pingo, North Pinoh, West Tanah Pinoh, Tanah Pinoh, Menukung, Ella Hilir and Belimbing Hulu.

In those 10 areas, the floods have affected 22,072 families or 88,288 people. In addition, the disaster also has damaged 20,460 houses and 196 public facilities.
 
"BPBD's Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) has worked with miltary, police and local officials to carry out assessment," BNPB spokesperson Raditya Jati said in a press release on Wednesday.
 
Meanwhile, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), rain with medium to high intensity may still occur in Melawi Regency.
