Maluku Quake Death Toll Reaches 39

Jakarta: The number of deaths caused by last month's massive earthquake in Maluku province has risen once again to 39, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said Tuesday.
 
"As of last night, there are 39 dead victims, 1,578 injured victims and 170,900 evacuees," BNPB head Lieutenant General TNI Doni Monardo told reporters.
 
Doni revealed that the earthquake damaged at least 6,335 homes and 512 public facilities. He explained that the disaster caused heavy damage to around 1,273 homes.

According to the BNPB leader, his agency has been instructed to monitor recovery activities in affected areas. In adddition, affected residents has been advised to avoid hoaxes and provocations that can cause panic. 
 
The 6.5 magnitude eathquake shook Ambon and other regions in Maluku province on September 26, 2019. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 40 kilometers northwest of Ambon. 
 
The earthquake did not trigger tsunami warnings. Nevertheless, the strong quake caused panic in Ambon.
