Jakarta: On November 2 2023 at 19.00 Egyptian time, it was confirmed that four Indonesian citizens and their wives who were from Palestine had been successfully evacuated from Gaza. They have safely reached Rafah.
“On November 2 at around 19.00 Egyptian time or around 00.00 November 3 WIB, four Indonesian citizens and one Indonesian citizen's wife were successfully evacuated from Gaza and arrived in Rafah," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in a press conference, Friday 3 November 2023
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the Indonesian Embassy team in Cairo had previously been in Rafah to pick them up.
"The Indonesian Embassy team is currently together with Indonesian citizens. At 04.00 this morning, I communicated with the Indonesian Embassy Team in Cairo and received information that the Indonesian citizen and the Cairo Team were on their way to Cairo. "It is estimated that they will arrive in Cairo at 03.00 in the morning Cairo time," said Foreign Minister Retno.
"Before this press briefing began, we made contact again with the team and received information, thank God, that Indonesian citizens and the team from the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo had arrived in Cairo safely," added the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"The evacuation journey for four Indonesian citizens and one Indonesian citizen's wife was not an easy thing, once again not an easy thing. On November 1, Indonesian citizens tried to go to Rafah, but had to return because the situation was not very conducive. "There were attacks along the road," added the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Seeing this unfavorable situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs agreed that Indonesian citizens should return to their homes in North Gaza.
On November 2, since the morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tried again to evacuate, but failed again because the situation did not allow it.
Then, the evacuation attempt was continued on November 2 at noon, the evacuation was successful. In the end, four Indonesian citizens and one Indonesian citizen's wife were successfully evacuated.
Abdillah Onim, an activist and humanitarian activist who has lived in Gaza for a long time, was finally successfully evacuated. He also conveyed a message after he was rescued.
“Assalmualaikum, Mother. Thank God, Bang Onim and his wife and children for being with friends at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo. Now on the way at the Embassy. Thank you mom. Thank God for your cooperation. Thank you," said Bang Onim in a voice recording.
Since October 7, the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza has exceeded 9,000. Meanwhile, 1,400 Israeli citizens also died in this war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted on continuing this attack. He emphasized that nothing could stop Israel.
