TransJakarta Expected to Serve 231 Million Passengers in 2019

Jakarta: Region-owned PT Transportasi Jakarta hopes that the annual ridership of TransJakarta bus rapid transit system (BRT) can reach 231 million this year.
 
"The target is 231.8 million this year," PT Transportasi Jakarta operational director Daud Joseph said at the Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday.
 
"We will operate 236 routes and 3,588 buses," he added.

In the next few years, TransJakarta will gradually add more routes and buses. In addition to that, the BRT system also will be integrated with other modes of transportation.
 
According to reports, the Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) project will be inaugurated in March 2019. In the meantime, the Greater Jakarta light rail trainst (LRT) project will be completed in mid-2021.
 
The Greater Jakarta region comprises Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. The area has a population of more than 28 million people.
 
It is the most populous urban area in Indonesia. It is also the center of government and economy of the country.
 
The central goverment has ordered regional leaders to improve infrastructure systems in Jabodetabek. It has allocated funds to help resolve traffic congestion and its negative impacts.
 
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesian economy grew by 5.17 percent in 2018. It was Indonesia's highest annual growth in five years.
 
In the meantime, Indonesia's poverty rate stood at 9.66 percent in September 2018. It decreased by 0.46 percentage point compared to September 2017.
