Jakarta: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) once again visited Cianjur to inspect reconstruction efforts in the region. According to the Indonesian Head of State, as many as 53,408 houses and buildings were damaged last month's earthquake.
Today, the government distributed funds to repair around 8,100 houses, the government also plans to repair public facilities such as hospitals, health centers and scools.
"Many health facilities were damaged. Many hospitals and health centers were damaged. 272 places of worship were damaged. The number of damaged education facilities such as Islamic schools, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools is 540. We need to tackle this issue," President Jokowi said when visiting an evacuation shelter in Cianjur today.
President Jokowi previously decided to increase the amount of funds to repair damaged houses in Cianjur. The decision was taken after he consulted with the Ministry of Finance.
Houses with heavy damage will reveive Rp60 million each, house with medium damage will receive Rp30 million each, while house with light damage will receive Rp15 million each.
"I hope the construction process can begin immediately. The collapsed houses are immediately cleared of debris. The bricks that can still be used are cleaned and used again," said President Jokowi.
