Jakarta: The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Head Dwikorita Karnawati has said that the peak of La Nina is predicted to occur between December 2020 and January 2021.
"The peak of La Nina is predicted to coincide with the peak of rainy season. The peak of rainy season is predicted to occur between January and February. La Nina is predicted to occur between December and January," said the BMKG Head in a written statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 73 percent of Indonesian territory will enter the rainy season in October or November, while the other parts of the territory have entered the rainy season since September.
"West Java have entered the rainy season since September," Dwikorita stated.
Earlier today, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered ministries and government agencies to anticipate the impacts of La Nina phenomenon and hydrometeorological disaters to agricultural activities.
The opposite of El Nino, La Nina is a naturally occurring phenomenon in which sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean are lower than normal.
