Jakarta: Wiranto relinquished his position as the head of the Advisory Council of the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party. Wiranto wants to focus on carrying out his duties as chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres).
"I resign from the chairmanship of the Hanura Party's Advisory Council," Wiranto said at a press conference at the Century Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
According to him, some people want him to leave the position after being appointed as chairman of the Wantimpres. Wiranto does not want to hold another position.
Nevertheless, Law Number 19 Year 2006 Regarding the Presidential Advisory Council does not require him to resign from his position in a political party. The law stipulates that only the general chairman and central executive board members must resign.
"So that the chairman of the supervisory board is not covered by the restriction," he said.
Wiranto claimed that the spirit of Hanura was no longer the same as before. He felt as he was not considered the founder of the Hanura Party.
"If you are like me, how do you feel?" Wiranto asked.
