Jokowi Warns Long Weekend Could Lead to Covid-19 Surge

Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered his subordinates to closely monitor the spread of covid-19 across the country ahead of long weekend in the end of October 2020.
 
"The trend increased after a long weekend few months ago. Therefore, we need to discuss this issue. The upcoming long weekend should not cause an increase in covid-19 cases," said the president during cabinet meeting here on Monday.
 
According to President Jokowi, as of Sunday, the rate of active-covid-19 cases is 17.69 percent nationwide, below a global average of 22.54 percent.

"It is good news. The mortality rate is also decreasing. It has decreased to 3.45 percent," the president stated.
 
On Sunday, Indonesia's Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 4,105 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 361,867.
 
Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, from Saturday noon until Sunday noon, the total number of confirmed covid-19 recoveries across Indonesia was up by 3,732 to 285.324.
 
Meanwhile, in the same period, the official covid-19 death toll in the country rose by 80 to 12,511.
