Jember: Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education (Menristedikti), Mohamad Nasir regretted the attack experienced by the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security, Wiranto. Nasir considered the violence could not be justified, for whatever the reason.
"I apologize for the behavior of people who committed a violent attack against Menkopolhukam. It should not have happened," Nasir said after the launch of the Assunniyah Community Academy, Jember, Thursday, October 10, 2019.
The former chancellor of Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang said that this incident should be a lesson. Violence cannot solve a problem especially when threatens one's life.
"My hope is that this is the first and last time. Because it (violence) doesn't solve the problem, "Nasir said.
Nasir invited all parties to sit together addressing this issue. He says to not let new hatred arise to the authority figures and officials after this incident.
"We as religious people, must be vigilant together, don't let our emotions solve the problem," Nasir explained.
After the incident, Nasir didn't want to take any chances so he tightened his own security. According to him, threats may come at any given time.
