Jakarta: People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Ahmad Basarah has claimed that all political parties are eager to amend the 1945 constitution.

"Gerindra has agreed a limited amendment," the PDI Perjuangan politician said here on Thursday.

According to the PDI Perjuangan lawmaker, all 10 factions agreed to reintroduce the State Policy Guideline (GBHN). In the future, MPR members will discuss about MPR's status and GBHN's legal basis.

"All factions have agreed to slightly amend the 1945 constitution," the former PDI Perjuangan deputy secretary general.

MPR is the legislative branch of Indonesia's political system. It is composed of the members of the People's Representative Council (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

The MPR speaker position is currently held by PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan. A number of parties have expressed their keenness to secure the position.

"We are ready to lose the position as long as MPR can improve its performance," Basarah said.

"MPR is different with DPR (the House of Representatives). DPR speaker must come from the winner of the legislative election," he explained.
