Koopsus Can Bolster Counterterrorism Activities: Polri

Cindy • 31 July 2019 18:53
Jakarta: The National Police (Polri) has said that the Special Operations Command (Koopsus) of the National Armed Forces (TNI) can help bolster counterterrorism activities.

"We cannot handle the issue alone. We need to cooperate with TNI and other stakeholders," Polri spokesman Brigadier General Dedy Prasetyo said here on Wednesday.

"For example, the operation to hunt down the remaining members of Ali kalora Group. TNI has a lot of experience in jungle warfare. Koopsus can lead the operation," the spokesman explained.

Earlier this month, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on 3 July 2019 has signed Presidential Regulation Number 42 of 2019 on the Second Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 10 of 2010 on the Organizational Structure of the Indonesian National Defense Forces.

In a bid to deal with highly escalation threats which endanger the ideology, sovereignty, and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and its people, the Government has decided to establish Koopsus.

According to the Regulation, the Koopssus TNI is in charge of carrying out special operations and activities that require high speed and success to save national interests at home and abroad.
