Jakarta: The 43rd ASEAN Summit is in sight. Held on September 5-7 2023, the Summit will be the culmination of Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN this year.

"There are four big spirits in Indonesia's chairmanship for the 43rd ASEAN Summit," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at a media gathering in Jakarta, Monday, August 28, 2023.

The first spirit, said Retno, is the long-term vision of ASEAN.

"This is important because there needs to be continuity, because it will become ASEAN's guidelines going forward. And the foundation will begin to be built,“ Minister Retno said.

Later, she said, Indonesia’s chairmanship would produce the 4th ASEAN Concord.

The second spirit, she continued, makes ASEAN more resilient in facing the challenges of the times. "This is what is called ASEAN affairs (important)," said Retno.

While the third, namely making ASEAN a center of economic growth. "One of them is food security," he said.

This is in line with the theme of ASEAN in Indonesia's chairmanship, namely 'ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth'.

And the last spirit is to make the Indo-Pacific a safe and peaceful region. To achieve this, the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) will continue to be promoted to ASEAN partner countries.

Also at this event, Indonesia initiated the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum which was held in conjunction with the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
