Flooding Inundates Paddy Fields in West Java's Karawang

Karawang: Floods inundated thousands of hectares of paddy fields in Karawang Regency, West Java Province, over the past week, according to the local agriculture office.
 
"On an average, the flooded rice plantation is aged 1-95 HST (days after planting)," Chief of the Paddy Plant and Second Crop Protection Section of the Karawang Regency Agriculture Office Yuyu Yudaswarasaid stated on Monday, March 2, 2020.
 
According to the Karawang District Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), the flooding affected 29 areas over the past week owing to high rainfall that caused several rivers to overflow their banks.

Baseed on reports from 13 areas, the flooding swamped at least 4,870 hectares of rice fields in the regency.
 
"The size of flooded paddy fields will continue to increase," he stated.
 
"We are yet calculating the losses and waiting for reports from all flood-hit sub-districts,” he stated. (Antara)
