Jakarta: Mount Merapi erupted on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 10.56 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), spewing a column of ash up to 5,000 meters high.
According to the The Research and Technological Development for Geological Disaster Agency (BPPTKG), the eruption was recorded at an amplitude of 75 milimeters and a duration of seven minutes.
In addition, the visual of today's eruption was also recorded by BPPTKG's monitoring camera at the Bubrah Market area.
"There were no reports from the public regarding the impact of the eruption," National disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Agus Wibowo said in a press release on Friday, March 27, 2020.
"The public is asked to remain calm, not panic and always monitor official information from the authorities," he stated.
Mount Merapi is located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. Mount Merapi's status has been maintained at Level II (Waspada) since 2018.
