Defense Equipment Procurement Will be Fair: Official

Jakarta: Defense Minister Spokesman Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak has denied the procurement of defense equipment will prioritize the Army. 
 
According to the spokesperson, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto guarantees that the procurement of defense equipment will not take sides with one of the branches.
 
"So, it is wrong if someone says the perspective and program of the Defense Ministry has a bias to the Army," Dahnil said in Jakarta on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Dahnil explained Prabowo understands the condition of Indonesia's defense sector. He revealed that some existing defense equipment will be upgraded and modernized. 
 
Prabowo is currently studying the prices and specifications of the equipment that will be purchased. The study will be used as a basis for the procurement of defense equipment for 2019 and 2020.  The policy is aimed to ensure the procurement of defense equipment that is economical, efficient and effective. 
 
"Defense spending must be used as much as possible in the interests of maintaining the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia," he explained.
 
President Joko Widodo previously asked Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to provide the latest weaponry to anticipate future wars. Jokowi did not want to procure obsolete weapons. He stressed that the procurement of defense equipment must really consider and anticipate latest innovations.
