Jakarta: Head of Indonesia’s National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Suhardi Alius said the use of face veil cannot be used as an indicator of terrorism.
He argued that clothing cannot be associated with a radical mindset.
"It cannott be determined by physical appearance," Suhardi said at the KPK building, South Jakarta on Monday, November 4, 2019.
Nevertheless, Suhardi said every agency can regulat the way employees dress. He hopes that employees obey the rules that are enforced.
"Each institution provides rules and should be obeyed. After work, you can dress the way you want to dress," he said.
KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo who participated in the dialogue welcomed Suhardi's explanation. All parties are expected to understand and prevent radical mindsets from entering government agencies.
"Hopefully moving forward, we can understand and prevent such things," Agus said.
