Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Rocks Bengkulu

Bengkulu: A magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province, at 21.31 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
 
Based on reports from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake did trigger tsunami warnings.
 
With at a depth of 12 kilometers, the epicenter of the earthquake was 64 kilometers southwest of Kaur Regency. 
 
The earthquake was felt in several regions in southern Sumatra, including Martapura, Panimbang, Ngaras, Bandar Lampung, Muara Dua, Semaka, and Pematang Sawah.

Located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunami waves.
