Jakarta: The death toll of Friday's magnitude 6.2 earthquake that rocked the regencies of Majene and Mamuju in West Sulawesi province has climbed to 46, a National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) official said on Saturday.
Moreover, the strong earthquake has injured more than 800 people and forced around 15,000 residents to flee their homes.
"9 people were killed in Majene, while 37 people were killed in Mamuju," said BNPB spokesperson Raditya Jati during a virtual press conference here on Saturday afternoon.
Previously, BNPB Head Doni Monardo, together with West Sulawesi Governor Ali Baal Masdar visited several areas in Majene Regency.
In addition to that, the BNPB leader also handed over financial assistance to the West Sulawsi provincial government and local governments in the two quake-affected regencies.
